Everything You Need To Know For Prom 2010

 The Dress

The 2010 prom season is upon us! The hottest dresses for this years prom involve the color white, one shoulder, prints, cutouts and jewel tones. In reality these are all very different and should for the most part not be mixed.  White dresses are classic pieces which will ensure that you are fashionable, stylish and formal all at the same time. You can call it the single clavicle craze wearing diagonal straps that show off a pretty collarbone, one shoulder dresses are everywhere this prom season. Or you could go for floral or graphic print, maybe exploring the brave land in between. Get a dress with prints and you will be sure to stand out. A cutout dress can leave little to the imagination when you bare it all from the side and back. The key to this is to keep it classy. Finally, jewel tones rule in ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue and amethyst will make you glow.

 The Makeup

When it comes to makeup there are three big trends this season. The first is the classic smokey eye with nude lip which I feel like you could never go wrong with. The next is a bit more bold; a red lip with a neutral eye. And the last, and most outrageous, matte skin with blue shadow. I always suggest if you're going to get your makeup done to make an appointment with MAC. It's only $50 and you walk out looking like a movie star. My main tip for makeup is to not be too matchy-matchy with your dress. If you try any of these trends your bound to look gorgeous.

 The Hair

Then there's the hair! It's really all about the waves and the up do. Things like braids, tight curls, romantic waves, chignons and retro styles could really put your outfit over the top if paired with the right dress. Any dress that hits you high on the neck or chest, has an intricate back or details around the bust calls for an up do. If a dress is maybe more simple, or low cut then I think it would be more appropriate to leave your hair down.

 The Jewels

Finally, what I believe is the most important part, the jewelry. Jewelry you add to a formal dress could make or break it. The 2010 prom season calls for big jewels, I also believe every day calls for big jewels. The chandelier earring, cocktail ring, multi-strand necklace and gold are the big items. Elaborate, multi-tier earrings with antique rhinestones are fantastic for a swept up hairstyle. Elaborate cocktail rings are huge this season and can be an ultra cool statement piece. Multi-strand necklaces are not only popular but are especially great for gowns that are low cut or strapless.  They satisfy current fashion's leanings toward the eclectic and layered. And while silver has typically been the preferred color for youthful jewelry, bold gold is on the rise.  Gold is especially beautiful with those richer, jewel-toned dresses.

And Remember..

All of these trends are great but remember, just because a dress or a style is trendy doesn't technically mean you should partake in it! When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter how trendy the fabric or design is. If it doesn't work for you, it's better to move on and try something else! The best way to find a dress that will flatter you is to keep in mind your body shape. A pear shaped girl should have a dress with a fitted top and full or a-line skirt. If you are busty you may want to go for a dress that has a sweetheart neckline or attracts attention to the waist. You may have an apple shape, if so a dress with an empire waist will help draw attention to your middle. Or if you are petite show a little leg with an asymmetrical hemline to make you appear taller. It's all about the little tricks that will keep you looking flawless on your big night!
